We all love our home looking inviting and beautiful, whether you just want to enjoy your space on your own or you’re looking to host. But let’s face it, most of us don’t have the time to redecorate whenever we want even if we’d love to. An easy way to scratch that Home Decorating itch without having to tear down your curtains or reupholster your couch is to introduce Temporary Seasonal Decor. This is an easy way to add a pop of colour to your space, liven up an area for the holidays, or to give as a gift. Plus–you can make these projects with Home Decor fabric to have them last longer and look professionally made.

Table Runners

Table runners are the first items up on our list and a quilting staple. While you don’t need to quilt your table runners for them to be elegant and beautiful, they are nonetheless perfect for adding a little bit extra to your space. You can add a splash of silver jacquard to your wooden dining-room table for an elegant look, or decorate your entry hall table with a playful, printed fabric.

Myles put together this super easy Table Runner DIY that is live on our blog now!

Wreaths

This seasonal classic is not only a great way to add a bit of (pumpkin) spice to your door, but can also be used to decorate your table! Wreaths laid flat on a table with candles in the middle create that cozy but sophisticated look you see in the magazines. You can make a wreath with craft materials or fabric to get the style you’re looking for. I know just last year I collected pinecones from my local park and sewed up some felt mushrooms to make a charming Christmas Wreath!

If you’re looking for a simple wreath idea, check out our short video on making a fabric tied wreath which is easy to adjust for the season of your choice!

Decorative pillows

Some of us over look what decorative pillows can do for our Couches or Chairs. Just changing out the pillows on your couch to red, orange or yellow can bring those Autumn vibes into your home with minimal effort. To change it up, consider sewing a pillow in an unconventional shape as well. Circular, cylindrical or even rectangular pillows can make your space look show-stopping without having to invest a ton of time or money in the project! Plus, when using a Home Decor fabric instead of quilt cottons or fashion fabrics you can achieve that “polished” look professionals strive for.

Throws & Duvet covers

Switching out your duvet cover for the season truly does spark joy for many of us when we walk into our bedrooms! Of course you can make a duvet cover as simple or as complex as you’d like and you quilters out there are probably already thinking up 10 different patterns you’d like to try out. Remember, a duvet can be 1 colour as well and simply choosing a fun patterned fabric can add a welcome change to your space!

Alternatively, throws are a great addition to your bed or couch and typically quicker to sew. Consider making a throw that fits on just the foot of your bed to add a splash of colour to your current duvet set, or draped over your couch to add some holiday charm.

We have a basic duvet cover tutorial on our blog here, which is great for those looking for a new set. Remember, you can find Home Decor fabric that is extra wide making it easier to achieve the look you’re going for!

Porch & Door decor

For the crafters out there a great addition to your seasonal decor are porch or door decorations. Whether you have steps leading up to your home or you live in an apartment building, putting some seasonal items by your door is a great way to make your home look delightful and inviting. I know when I walk into someone’s home in the Fall and they have a little display of fabric pumpkins in their entry hall it charms the heck out of me. It makes the space feel bright and welcoming and the decor can easily be put away when the season concludes. We even have a DIY on how to make fabric Snowmen to sit by your foyer!

Since door decor can vary greatly, what kind of decor would you like to see us create? Fabric pumpkins for Autumn? Reindeer for Christmas? Charming felt window displays for Easter or Halloween? Tell us what you think and what you’re looking forward to making this season!
